Hello everyone, my name is Shelby Bullock and I will be your instructor for this course. A little bit about me is that I am a West Texas native, and graduated from New Tech here in Odessa in 2010. Although I was born and raised in Odessa, I consider Wales (a member country of the UK) my second home and travel there frequently to see my family. I love rubber ducks (and real ducks), dragons (the symbol of Wales (Cymru in Welsh), and the colour mint green.

#3

Meme Example: This is a visual representation of how I try to seem like I'm super chill, but when I get stressed I start crying.

Song Example: I love music that remind me of people and places that are dear to me.

  • "Cleopatra" The Lumineers
  • "Work Song" Hoizer
  • "Fat Bottomed Girls" Queen
  • "I'm Gonna Be (500 Miles)" The Proclaimers
  • "Don't Stop Me Now" Queen
  • "Flashed Junk Mind" Milky Chance
  • "You'll Never Walk Alone" Gerry and the Peacemakers
  • "9 to 5" Dolly Parton
  • "Ophelia" The Lumineers
  • "Spirit in the Sky" Norman Greenbaum

Movie (TV Show)WandaVision is a mini-series that, I think, gives folks a pretty good understanding of who I am as a person and what I've gone through throughout my life. I have an affinity with Wanda in that series because of her grief and how isolated she feels, having lost her entire family and loved ones. Like Wanda, I also lost both my parents (albeit to less violent circumstances than her--my dad died of liver and kidney disease and my mom of skin cancer), and my grandparents, with whom I was extremely close growing up. My Papa died just three months after my dad in 2016 and my Nana died five months after my mom in 2019. I have no siblings, so losing my parents and grandparents all so close together was devastating to me, and watching Wanda grieve her parents, brother, and finally Vision really resonated with me. I especially felt it when she created the pocket universe wherein her sitcom-perfect version of Westview existed. I understood her pain in that moment, and I wished with all my heart that my grief could burst forth from my chest and create my own perfect world where I controlled everything, and had all of my family, but especially my mom, back.

Quote(s)

MONICA RAMBEAU: "Given the chance, and given your power, I'd bring my mom back. I know I would."

VISION: "But what is grief, if not love persevering?"
